Woody Biomass:
Thoughtful and Responsible Use of Forest Residues

Let's Think About This
Terms: A little Work at the Beginning
KILOWATT-HOURS. Don't be intimidated. kWh
-
KILOWATT = 1000 watts.
-
A 100 watt lightbulb uses 100 watts per hour.
Ten lit 100w lightbulbs use ONE KILOWATT HOUR. -
Average household uses 25kWh a day, around 4kWH at any given time.
We don't. We use about 6kWh a day. -
MEGAWATT = 1000 kilowatts. Have to be tedious here for a second, but hang on.
A MEGAWATT-HOUR = 1000 KILOWATT HOURS.
And now, you're ready. Buckle Up, Buttercup!
This isn't going anywhere. Scroll back up whenever!

It's generally agreed that one MWH can supply about 1000 people with electricity for an hour.
That is about 300-400 homes.

CALUMET + LAURIUM
Residential Load
About 3MW.
This doesn't include industrial or large commercial. So, doesn't include Pat's or Calumet Electronics. A medium-sized grocery store can use 3MWH in a month.
